Adele’s Epic Live Performance in Munich: A Night to Remember Before Her Break
Sometimes, you remember exactly when you start dreaming about something. For me, that moment came in 2015 when a friend of mine snagged a front-row seat at Adele’s Toronto concert. I had listened to Adele throughout my college years, but knowing someone who saw her live made me believe I could experience that too. Almost a decade later, I found myself at Munich Messe for the eighth show of Adele’s 10-show residency this summer.
Adele’s Munich Residency Earlier this year, Adele surprised fans by announcing her residency in Munich. Initially planned for four shows, it expanded to 10 due to high demand. Performing every Friday and Saturday in August, this residency was one of the rare opportunities to see her live since she no longer tours frequently.
Why Munich? Two concert promoters spent years persuading Adele to perform at the Messe München Exhibition Centre. They even proposed building a custom arena for the event. Adele was convinced by Munich’s ability to host large-scale events like Oktoberfest and the design of the temporary stadium. The result was spectacular.
A Custom-Built Arena for Adele The custom-built arena was massive, covering 400,000 square meters, the size of 60 football fields. It could accommodate up to 80,000 people per show, offering an experience far beyond just a concert. With bars, food stalls, a Ferris wheel, and a museum showcasing Adele’s costumes and memorabilia, it was dubbed “Adele World.”
The large screens were a key feature. Adele wanted every fan to feel like she was performing just for them, no matter where they sat. This setup allowed everyone to enjoy a close-up experience.
The Performance Europe was buzzing with concerts in the summer of 2024. While Coldplay and Taylor Swift toured, Adele’s residency in Munich stood out. Her setlist featured 22 songs, including classics like “Hello,” “Rolling in the Deep,” “Someone Like You,” and “When We Were Young.”
From the moment she appeared on stage, emerging from the center rather than walking on, the energy was palpable. Her performance was emotional, heartfelt, and filled with moments that moved both Adele and the audience to tears.
Songs like “Love in the Dark,” “Make You Feel My Love,” and “All I Ask” were particularly emotional, with Adele herself tearing up. But she balanced it with fun, reminding the audience that, despite the emotional nature of her songs, it was all about having a good time.
Adele’s connection with the audience was strong. She shared personal stories, joked, and even invited fans on stage. One lucky person found a letter and 50 euros hidden under their seat at every show.
Was It Worth It? With rumors of Adele taking a break from performing, I wasn’t sure if flying to Munich for the concert was worth it. But after experiencing it, I can confidently say it was one of the best nights of my life. Adele’s final night of the residency ended with an emotional farewell. She announced she would be taking a break to enjoy the life she’s worked so hard to build, leaving fans with unforgettable memories.
“I will not see you for an incredibly long time… These shows have been spectacular,” she said, bringing the audience to tears once more.
Looking back, it was more than worth it. I’d do it all over again, any day.
