The political landscape of West Bengal and the national capital has been thrown into intense chaos as a massive rebellion erupted within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), signaling a deep internal rift that has now officially reached the halls of Parliament. In a shocking development that caught the party leadership completely off guard, a powerful breakaway faction consisting of 20 Lok Sabha Members of Parliament, boldly led by the party’s Chief Whip Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, officially drafted and submitted a formal letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla declaring their immediate intention to separate from the ruling state party and formally align their political allegiance with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). This unprecedented parliamentary split occurred simultaneously as TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee were in New Delhi attending a high-profile, strategic unity meeting with the opposition INDIA bloc, exposing an embarrassing and severe lack of coordination and control within their own regional ranks. Political analysts point out that this massive mutiny is a direct reflection of a growing, deep-seated anti-incumbency sentiment building up across West Bengal, heavily fueled by widespread public anger over local employment scarcity, systemic institutional corruption, the massive lingering fallout from the intense RG Kar hospital protests, and highly effective grassroots mobilization by opposition groups over the past several months. In response to this sudden and devastating blow, veteran TMC leader Mahua Moitra fiercely slammed the rebel group and specifically targeted high-profile figures like Yusuf Pathan, publicly urging them to show some spine and shame rather than betraying the popular mandate of the people who elected them under the TMC banner. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party has seized this golden opportunity to mock the rapidly shrinking presence of the opposition alliance, with top leaders jokingly remarking that the entire INDIA bloc’s future meetings might soon need to be held inside a single small car due to their collapsing numbers, while the NDA expects this newly acquired support to comfortably push their parliamentary voting strength well past the crucial 300-seat milestone.
